About
Young Enterprising Society (“YES”) started in 2012 as the brainchild of Que & Khalif El-Amin as they saw a need for a social outlet in Milwaukee for young professionals. Using Khalif’s vast network YES was able to host parties in the trendiest of Wisconsin’s Social Clubs that traditionally did not welcome people of color. With every party, YES hosted a “Haircuts for Kids” event, giving free haircuts throughout the United States. Concurrently, YES saw its brand grow through the use of social media culminating into selling over 2,000 pieces of apparel in their first year of business.
In its first 5 years of operation YES has continued to use its resources for a myriad of community events and services including Pamper my Princess Program, YES Tours, a Small Business Expo and numerous social events. YES has hosted events in locales such as Milwaukee, New York, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas playing host to thousands of supporters. Because of the diversity of events, Young Enterprising Society has built a national network of young professionals.
YES is also proud to be a part of many successful startups including Building New Pathways, Mobile Merchant Connect and Osha’s Market. Continuing in the tradition of entrepreneurship YES begun eCommerce training for adults that has lead to over 20 new entrepreneurs in only 5 months of trainings.
For the past 5 years, YES has taught our Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math Curriculum (STEAM) to over 2,500 students throughout the United States. YES introduces Entrepreneurship skills into our STEAM Curriculum, making the sessions one of a kind experiences.
YES presents Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math programming to students in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach that shows children young working examples of people that generate income from these fields. YES has taught over 1,800 children in the STEAM discipline in the largest Metropolitan areas including, New York, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Milwaukee.
The goal of the YES STEAM workshop is to show students relatable, young entrepreneurs that work and thrive within STEAM industries so that they may be motivated to explore the same or similar industries. Additionally, the program exposes students to the newest technologies, to continually expand their minds into producing the latest technologies.
Our workshops have now grown into a 4 year curriculum that includes (i) technology introduction, (ii) a business accelerator, (iii) career and college readiness, and (iv) project based learning.
Lastly, YES Started The Blueprint Seed Accelerator that provides $100,000 in seed investments to startups each year. YES has successful ran four cohorts, with 34 total companies, of Cultivator trainings, specializing in underrepresented founders including women (52%) and founders of color (100%). The Cultivator model is an extension of the traditional Accelerator model, because the ancillary benefits including office space and resources after completion of the program give YES the best chance to see the abilities, character, work ethic and growth of the startup entrepreneurs.
The Cultivator takes businesses in tech through two 12-week programs entitled Idea Validation and Market Validation, respectively. Startups that complete these two portions have a strong idea and an identifiable target market and some have initial customers and revenue. Startups usually stay in a working relationship with YES over a year after first completing the program.
